Scripted space episodes grew out of collaboration. Anita Dube had been aware of the project and had seen some of the episodes and had readily agreed to come in and ‘perform’. Tanmoy Sarkar had come to Khoj to watch a play and had been recommended by one of the actors, sujith. Anand Vivek Taneja who curated fornightly screenings at khoj came in one Sunday to workshop on ideas for script. He suggested that we do a sort of ‘pol khol’. A tell all, about the history of Khirkee. Get the Chauhans, Saini’s (landed elite from khikee village), the Kaushiks (like Gambhir and BabyUncle and their ilk) who owned a lot of land in khoj lane, the Nepali, Bihari, Bengali migrant communities (no mans land) and perhaps some people from Hauzrani. We would situate the 4 scenes at vantage points, overlooking the Khirkee masjid, the Saket mall construction site, the temple and the open courtyard of the ‘tel ka tinas’ and invite the inhabitants for a ‘talk show’. Each would narrate their version of the places history. Anand and Sunil Kumar, a Delhi University professor would play interlocutors, agent provocateurs of sorts and ‘set right’ appropriated and aprocryphal histories, the current MCD master plan and commando like eviction, sealing operations and demolitions, and the rapid construction of malls…A kind of ‘whose land is it, anyway?’ Unfortunately, this was called of the the very last minute, (cables were laid, cameras and tv’s installed, Sunil Kumar and Anand present and ready) due to a co-ordination error on our part. We were and are still sorry that this last, seemingly epic and fittingly last story session could not play itself out and thank Anand and Sunil for their time and collaboration. Additional thanks to Ashok lal and Imran Khan for coming for the scripting workshop. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
